When we were in Bolivia three years ago, the local tour guide asked the Americans why so many American colleges and universities send recruiters to Bolivia to lure their socialist professors to America. The guide said he despises their socialist professors, as do most Americans.
A question just as good as the above is "why does California need two university systems?" Is there such a place as "Stanford Light?" "Cal Tech Light?"
There is no need to debate whether most of the UC and CSU professors are socialists, or even communists. Do you remember Commie Berkeley professor Angela Davis?
California would be a better place if the CSU system and campuses are all entirely eliminated. Send the socialists back to the countries they came from. And then create UCOL....the University of California On-Line, where there are no football teams, crimes, demonstrations, frat houses, and no face-to-face opportunities with the very cool and credentialed socialists.
